RESIDENCE NOTE / PRIVATE RECORD

A cantilevered Pacific residence that turns wind, fog and horizon into architecture while keeping its most private rooms close to the land.

RESIDENCE NOTES

Board-formed concrete · redwood · glass

Architecture understood through use.

Glass Tide sits above a remote stretch of the Big Sur coast, reached through redwood woodland before the Pacific appears in a single uninterrupted reveal. The house is formed by two concrete walls and a cantilevered roof, creating a protected platform that feels suspended between forest and ocean.

The main level brings kitchen, dining and living spaces into one long room without losing intimacy. A sunken conversation area, sheltered courtyard and library give the plan distinct places to gather. Below, five suites are set into the slope, insulated from wind and oriented toward private terraces cut into native planting.

Environmental systems were developed for resilience: on-site water storage, battery-supported solar generation and naturally tempered concrete mass reduce dependence on the grid. Weathering redwood, dark bronze and mineral plaster give the interiors warmth against the exposed coastline. The property is offered with a complete stewardship plan for the surrounding habitat.
